Ukr Tour Kiev welcomes you to Ukraine!
Welcome to Ukraine:
Behind Russia, Ukraine is the largest country in Europe, full of ancient monasteries, palaces, fertile
plains, mountain ranges and sandy beaches which remain largely undiscovered by
western tourists. The climate in
Ukraine is mild; the
Crimea in particular has sunny, Mediterranean
weather.
Language:
The official language of Ukraine
is Ukrainian, a Slavic language closely related to Russian, and also Polish,
Czech, and other languages.
Ukrainian is written with the Cyrillic alphabet. Almost everyone in Ukraine also speaks Russian, which is especially
common in cities like Kiev and Odessa.
Capital city:
The capital of Ukraine is Kiev, a large, exciting city with an ancient
history, filled with shady trees, old churches, monuments, parks, lakes, night
clubs, restaurants, and anything else you could ask for. During the Middle Ages Kiev was the
center of the powerful Kievan Rus civilization, and in 1991 became the capital
of Ukraine after independence
from the USSR.
Government:
Today, Ukraine is a parliamentary democracy
with a popularly elected president and a parliament, the Verkhovna Rada.
Currency:
The
official currency of the Ukraine is the Hryvnia. It is extremely possible to exchange
U.S. dollars and Euros.
Neighbors:
Ukraine is located in
Eastern Europe, and borders Moldova, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia on land, as well as Georgia, Bulgaria and Turkey
by sea.
Visa:
Travelers from the United States, the European Union,
Japan, and Canada
do not
require a visa for stays under 90 days.
